Colonel Sophia Qureshi is a senior officer in the Indian Army's Corps of Signals. She made history as the first woman to lead an Indian Army contingent at a multinational military exercise in 2016. With a career spanning over two decades, she has served in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations and played a pivotal role in Operation Sindoor.
Colonel Qureshi was commissioned into the Indian Army in 1999 after training at the Officers Training Academy, Chennai.
She served in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Congo for over six years.
Her grandfather served in the Indian Army as a religious teacher.
She received commendation cards for her exemplary service during Operation Parakram and flood relief operations in Northeast India.
In 2016, she led the Indian contingent at Exercise Force 18, becoming the only female commander among 18 participating nations.
