Upendra Limaye is an acclaimed Indian actor known for his work in Marathi and Hindi cinema. Born on November 8, 1969, in Pune, Maharashtra, he pursued his education at New English High School and Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University. Further honing his craft, he completed an acting course at Lalit Kala Kendra, Centre for Performing Arts, New Delhi. Upendra began his acting journey with the film 'Mukta' in 1994 and has since delivered numerous notable performances. His portrayal of Tayappa in the Marathi film 'Jogwa' (2009) earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor, making him the first Marathi actor to receive this honor. Forbes India recognized his performance in 'Jogwa' as one of the '25 Greatest Acting Performances of Indian Cinema' during the centenary of Indian cinema in April 2013. Throughout his career, Upendra has appeared in various award-winning films, including 'Page 3' (2005), 'Traffic Signal' (2007), and 'Antim: The Final Truth' (2021).
Upendra was the first in his family to pursue a career in acting.
He was more interested in co-curricular activities than studies during his school days and actively participated in plays.
Upendra co-founded an experimental theatre platform called 'Parichay' in 1988.
