Charuhasan is an Indian actor, filmmaker, and writer known for his work in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada cinema. He began his career as a lawyer before transitioning into acting in 1979 with the Tamil film 'Uthiripookkal'. He gained critical acclaim for his performance in the Kannada film 'Tabarana Kathe' (1987), for which he won the National Film Award for Best Actor and the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actor. Charuhasan is the elder brother of actor Kamal Haasan and father of actress Suhasini Maniratnam.
Practiced law from 1951 to 1981 before entering the film industry.
Influenced by the rationalist philosophy of Periyar E. V. Ramasamy.
Directed films including 'IPC 215' and 'Puthiya Sangamam'.
Authored an autobiography titled 'Thinking on My Feet'.
